AOT vs Freebandz Elite I 2024 I Showcase Championship
|
# 5 Jahkiaus Jones I Freebandz Elite I Thomson Middle School
Off the bat you can sense a different kind of physicality with him. He started off the game with a zip pass to the corner for an open 3 after finessing his way through the defense then picks up an and1 on the next possession. He also showed off the floater a bit and seems to be a player that can score at all levels. He had 8 points in the first quarter alone and was beating AOT by himself. Jones also showed some aggression on defense and a good understanding on how to time his steal. Again his demeanor alone showed that he was a bit more aggressive than his peers and had a good feel for the game. Jones is a really good passer as well. There’s a lot of power behind them, but he can get his passes off with the smallest angles. |
|
#2 Lavonta Ivery I Freebandz Elite I Thomson Middle School
Another player who had a nice performance showing his ability to score on multiple levels and show a good IQ for the game. Between the first two quarters his name was called a lot as he was making plays on both sides of the ball. He knew how to move without the ball but he also knew how to create his own shot. A good one two punch between him and Jones really got Freebandz going early and they never let up. |
#6 Jordan Kee I Freebandz Elite I Nova Middle School, FL
Kee knocked down two big threes in the first half to stamp Freebandz presence and is coming off as the shooter for this program. He was hot from the right corner/wing spot and can solidify his role as thought if he continues to work. Just when it looked like AOT would have to key in on Jones and Ivory, Kee made his presence available showing he can be a reliable option as well.
#15 Marcellus Brigham I Freebandz Elite I Murphy Middle School, GA
Brigham might need to be watched with close eyes as he shows a player with very high upside. He too hustled hard on both ends of the court and seemed to be a play ahead. He was always alert and was able to put players in scoring position any time he made a pass. Brigham can attack and score at will or he can knock down the jumper if needed. This team was very talented but a player like Brigham is easily the glue piece and a focal point of this group with his ability to create for himself and others.

#35 Calvin Johnson I AOT
Johnson off the bat checks the 2 boxes; Size, and Potential. You can see he is still developing but he is already flirting with 6 feet in the 7th grade and he was testing out his ability at the PG position. At this age group he spends sometime in the post which can help with his foot work and development and that will carry over to his PG game. Not one of his best shooting nights, Johnson still showed some solid upside and can be a player to monitor for some time to come.
#4 Jaden Bates I AOT
Bates tried his hardest to be a spark for AOT but the game was out of reach early in the matchup. He had some solid ball handling skills, and was able to get to the basket due to those handles. He had a possession where he broke down about 3 of the AOT defenders, splitting through the press and eventually getting fouled on the play. He handled pressure well and although it was a tough loss, Bates played hard throughout the entire course
#13 Yusef Bowyer I AOT
Bowyer had a solid stroke from beyond the arc as he knocked down 2 deep 3s. The lefty also did a good job of pushing the pace and you can see once he warmed up and got some shots to fall his confidence builds and he looked like a kid that can get on a hot streak and light it up. I would keep close eyes on Bouwer for the future.

Newnan Elite vs North Metro Elite (2022 SHOWCASE CHAMPIONSHIP)
Newnan Elite can be a really good program if they stick together. They have a really good young core in Samuel Moss, Joshua Cameron, Austen Colton, and Eric Smarr. They come from a home grown area and can really use that to their advantage in tournaments with chemistry. Zion Brown brought a lot of energy for Newnan and showed some good signs as well.
NME is a team that is fun to watch and while they were soley out hustled in this matchup, they are a fun batch of kids to watch as well. This team has great coaching behind them and are a good mix of kids from the Metro Atlanta area which makes for a unique diverse group of talent. Matherine Agency

|
Samuel Moss I Newnan Elite I East Coweta HS
Moss is a very aggressive player and one that makes his impact with the ball in his hands. Moss likes to get his points inside using his aggression and size to score. He got some early varsity run this summer with East Coweta and was able to contribute, so once he came back to play against kids his grade he was not to flustered with their size and pressure. Moss is very sound defensively and you must keep your eyes on him. The East Coweta way is toughness and defensive, and surprisingly every stand out comes from that school and they all lived up to that style of play. Moss had 3 and1 plays and that aggression and ability gives him a very high upside. Matherine Agency |
|
# 4 Joshua Cameron I Newnan Elite
Cameron was a standout player with me before and he continues to show signs of improvement. He is a confident guard and scorer and can get his shot off from anywhere on the court. What I like about Joshua is his ability to compete and ability to play with a lot of energy on the defensive end, especially at the pg position. |
# 9 Austen Colton | Newnan Elite| East Coweta High School 2023
Colton is tremendous. Absolutely deadly when he gets going from downtown. As a ballhandler, his shooting ability opens up the floor for him to create far away from the basket. Typically plays up and doesn’t show any signs of youth against bigger and older players. This kid may have star power if he continues to grow and improve his overall athleticism. Tony Bruton # 2 Zion Brown I Newnan Elite Brown showed some positive signs against NME playing physical in the post and on the defensive end. He stayed with a lot of his shots and he got a lot of second chance points with his ability to stay with the ball. Brown also had some solid handles for his position and ran the floor well. Brown showed off his range and knocked down some threes showing he is one of the more versatile players for this group. |
#13 Eric Smarr I Newnan Elite
Smarr played a crucial role for this Newnan group picking up the win over NME. Smarr scored on all three levels then picked up the role of face guarding Michal Jacobs for the entire second half really throwing off NME’s game. Smarr was strong and had the ability to score at will. He was active defensively not just face guarding but locking down anyone who was in front of him. He had a couple of and1 plays and blew by defenders for easy 2’s. Smarr and Moss had their way with NME and should be the focal points of this group moving forward.

Michael Jacobs I North Metro Elite
Jacobs is a name that we are for sure going to remember when it’s all said and done. His skill and swagger is too good to be over looked for much longer. In a good position at Mceahcern to soak up everything from Sharife Cooper, when it’s his time he can pick up the torch and make a huge impact. He showed improvements with the left hand and he continues to be a really good passer and putting his teammates in position to score. He was flustered a bit by Newnan’s defense but still found ways to use his foot work and separation to break away from face guards and score. He is deadly with the ball in his hands and should use this game to pinpoint weaknesses and improve. Matherine Agency |
|
Jake Surovchak I North Metro Elite
Jake is NME’s shooter and his energy translates on both ends of the floor as well. Jake likes the corner 3 ball and shows nothing but confidence and a solid shooting form every time he throws one up. He complimented Jacobs very well and had a big time buzzer beater to end the half to carry some momentum over to the second half. Jake is another one of those players were he can get hot at any moment if you are not careful. Moves well without the ball and has a good feel for the game and his role. We look forward to seeing the rising Sophomore compete this season at River Ridge High School in Woodstock, GA. Matherine Agency |
#45 Jake Ruth I North Metro Elite
The few times I catch NME in action, Ruth isn’t necessarily a standout but is a player that any coach wants on their team. He will do anything once thrown on the court. He will be overlooked by coaches and defenders but in those cases might be the pivotal player in a win. He is just always doing something to contribute or finding a way to make his presence felt. DCA 2025 (Showcase Champions)
DCA was top to bottom one of the best coached teams that made it to championship Sunday. Kids knew how to run the passing lane well, get back on defense and spread the ball around. It was hard picking a standout for this game as it looked like they were about 6-7 deep. They flirted with a running clock in the second quarter and never let their foot off the gas. Clearly whoever is running practices and/or this organization is a big basketball head making sure they not only have good players but good basketball minds around those players. The smallest player on the floor, # 1 Kevin Savage III, made a huge impact and showed off his solid shooting form. He did a good job of spacing and using his size to duck off in the open spots and knock down a few 3’s. #3 Rhys Cotton was another guard who did a good job of running the floor and playing some tough defense. He could score on all 3 levels and really push the pace if needed. #22 Amair Taylor is the size guy and made his presence felt early with his size and frame alone. If they fed the post all game it could have been a long night for All in Elite, but Taylor showed how dynamic this group is running the floor and being able to push the ball up court as well. Those were 3 I could spot out the bat, but at least 5 of the players had at least 6 points. Keep an eye on this program. Matherine Agency

TRU Elite vs Beyond Boundaries 2028
Tue Elite is always a fun batch to watch as they play with so much emotion and have a good understanding for the game early. They are so good collectively, it speaks volume to their style of play will to win. The three headed press lead by Ryan Bell, Taylor Kemp-Lewis, and Blaze Johnson really gets them going as Beyond was struggling to make it past half court. They show a very unselfish batch and also show why they are regarded as one of the top teams in the country when it comes to their age group.
#30 Antoine Caughman I Tru Elite
In this matchup he had to be one of the biggest difference makers. He was aggressive on the glass and efficient scoring around the basket. He really got going late in the second quarter then took off from there. You can see in his demeanor alone he was one of the toughest kids on the court.
# 1 DeSean Clayton I Beyond Boundaries
Every time I would look up it seemed he would have the ball in his hands to either score or make a play. Early in the first he split two defenders to score. This kid came up with huge rebounds, brings the ball up court and does a good job of finding his teammates early for the easy layup. Another play early in the first he executed some good footwork on an up and under which was called a travel but still, he was showing signs early.
#5 Grant Griffin I Beyond Boundaries
For a young PG he really displayed some good ball handling skills, footwork, and speed at the position. He has a bit of a stocky build as well and shows the swagger you want to see in a young player. He showed good hustle defensively but it was really his speed and ball handling skills that stood out.

AOT vs Double Trouble (2023 SHOWCASE CHAMPIONSHIP)
The game got going relatively quick as the outside shooting was falling early for AOT and DT. Both teams ran the floor well and got a lot of points inside. This AOT team is pretty complete with guards including a 3 headed monster of Horne, Brown, and Cheeks. While AOT is an established program DT is brewing and all signs have them trending up with good talent and even better coaching.

#11 Malachi Brown I AOT I Buford HS, GA
Malachi is slowly turning into one of the more consistent shooters and players in his class. He started of the game knocking down his first 3 attempt, and with his shooting ability it only takes one to fall for him to really feel it. Malachi was the clear MVP of this game and really broke out of his shell it looked like. He had good head fakes, solid ball handles, and was scoring from all over the court. He moved well without the ball, but showed a new level of confidence just fully taking over the game doing what he wanted. I also love how he is starting to play somewhat bigger than his size. Malachi is now fighting in the trenches for rebounds and is pushing the ball up court as soon as he grabs the board. Again, he just buys into the Buford weight training system, and the sky is the limit for Malachi. |
#33 Gicarri Harris I AOT
While Gicarri is one of the younger players on this roster his game is somewhat mature. Another high level shooter that can get things going early and contribute on both ends of the floor. While his hair adds a couple of inches to his size, he was strong with the ball and is another player that can get hot at any moment. Gicarri is looking like the “IQ” of this team and his skill set helped them gain the victory over DT.
#2 Jet Horne I AOT
Horne looks very quiet on the court, but he showed some flashes as well. He knocked down a couple of threes early and made a few other plays along the game. He also came up with a few steals showing his active hands. Still getting a feel for Jet, it looks like he can be a pretty good player once he builds his confidence and works on his communication.
#10 Rashad Headges I AOT
Watching Headges I noticed that he had a very important role and that was defense. He wasn’t leaned on heavily to score but he made multiple plays on the defensive ends showing off his stealing ability, and his active feet on the defense end. He to can score the ball if needed as he knocked down a couple of jumpers, but ran the floor to pick up some easy lays. He had a solid hesi move that left his defender lost. Doing the little things is what will keep Hedges relevant for this AOT program.

#1 Ethan Davis I Double Trouble I Collin Hills HS, GA
Got off to a hot start and it looks like he is the focal point of this group. Ethan scored his group’s first 5 points and really set the tone. Ethan also had a play were a player was leaking out and waiting on a transition basket, but he bolted back to pick up the block on the defensive end. Ethan is a 3 level scorer that just has that baller swag and plays like he’s been around the block a few times. He was the instant spark for them offensively and will be the building block for this program. He puts in a lot of work off the court and it showed in his matchup against AOT.
#4 Aaron Jones I Double Trouble
Daniel Hall, one of the members of OST 24/7 put me on to another thing to look at when evaluating: Size and Potential, which Jones showed off the bat. Still a bit of a raw product offensively, he skied for multiple rebounds and also was able to extend plays doing so. He has very long arms and shows a solid understanding of protecting the rim. It’s not easy banging out with Keith Williams but he had a few plays were he deflected a few of his shots, and on a rebound, Jones held the ball over his head and Keith nor the other defenders around were able to get it. Huge Upside for him.
#3 Mansir Williamson I Double Trouble
After a slow start for Mansir he really turned it on in the second half. You can see him feeling out the game, but once he got going you can see what he is able to bring to the table. He was able to get to the basket pretty easy, based on his size and strength and he finished around the rim with ease. Mansir was also very fluid in his motion and plays with a very nice pace. GA Flame vs ATL Tapout (2021 SHOWCASE CHAMPIONSHIP)
#15 Garrett Sutherland I Atlanta Tap Out
Every time Tapout seemed to be in trouble Sutherlard would be leaking down the court or making a play to keep them in it. He showed very strong basketball IQ and was a nightmare defensively for Ga Flame. A deceptively quick first step, he was able to blow by defenders as well for the lay or beat the zone with his mid-range pull up or 3ball. He picked up multiple and1 and capitalized on his free throws to put the game out of reach. Again he was constantly running the floor and he never really looked to tired or winded. He was the clear MVP of this matchup and was key to his team picking up the win late.
#2 Nick Speros I Atlanta Tap Out
Nick ran the PG position very well and played with a really good pace. When the opportunity presented itself or the lane was open he would score, but nothing was ever forced. He was also really good at making plays in the last minute and finding the open man for a good shot. It helped that he would look off his defender which made the lane open for him to dart a pass through. This team does a good job of coaching because he too showed a good iq and feel for the game He moved well without the ball and was a pg that did it all on both ends of the floor, he was not just waiting to score or put in a lot of effort doing just one thing.
#1 Kahlil Spooney I Atlanta Tap Out
He found himself in the right place at the right time and can be seen as the X-factor for Atl Tap out. He knocked down a couple of threes, cut to the basket for easy layups and consistently found himself moving around the court putting himself in scoring positions. This was a well-rounded team that was very smart and played hard on both sides of the ball which is why they were able to steal one late.

#6 Jalen Harris I GA Flame
Harris continues to make strides for GA Flame and gets better each time I watch them perform. Starting out as a energy guy, Harris is slowly turning into a consistent 2 way player. One who gives you production and energy on offense and defense? He plays at such a high level, it almost gives him an extra burst of speed energy and athleticism most his age are not able to keep up with. He knocked down a couple of threes, but also likes to attack the basket and get the easy layup. Harris is a very coachable kids who does all the little things and should have a bright future as well. |
# 2 Ja’Ron Ford I GA Flame
Really showed off his aggression and quickness this game. He has a quick first step which allows him to blow by his defender and he gets to his spot at will, showing off his mid-range pull up. Also a kid whose football roots carry over as you can see him with his head on a swivel on defense and the ability to make a play on the ball at any given moment. He did a good job of making plays for others and good things happened when the ball was in his hands. A true PG with a lot of time on his side, Ford has a good feel and understanding for his game and position.

Goon Fam Elite vs Hawks Elite (2020 SHOWCASE CHAMPIONSHIP)
This was a back and forth battle between two scrappy teams and it came down to the wire. Some questionable shooting hurt Goon Fam late but they seemed to make it to championship Sunday every tournament they been in. Hawks Elite did not go out without a fight and was able to steal one late. Here are a few player takeaways from that matchup.

#2 Jordan Brown I Hawks Elite
Had a very smooth style of play and was good go#2ing downhill. He was the leading scorer for this group and he never looked too phased by the defense.
He knocked down a couple of 3s as well but got his money’s worth attacking the basket and scoring off of 2nd chance points. He knew how to run his lanes and although he did blow some layups, he was in a scoring position more times than none.

#13 Ta’Bryious Webb I Hawks Elite
Was very aggressive on the boards and could be seen as a possible impact player. He was very quick getting up and down the court as well as having a quick bounce getting off the floor. He didn’t score much but his impact on the glass can’t go unnoticed.
#22 Ahmad Green I Goon Fam
Really penetrated and spaced the floor well. With his stocky frame it was easy for him to get to his spots and collapse the defense. He is not shy with his shooting and he displayed it in the matchup knocking down floaters, mid- range j’s and a deep 3 ball. He was a good distributor and really got his team going. He usually sets the tone with his aggression, and you can tell when on the court he is the leader of the group. With him not being shy, he is not afraid to pull from deep which in this matchup was not necessarily needed. If he continues to work on his shot selection, he should see an improvement in his game. Overall, he is confident in his game all around and is very crucial to his team success.
#9 De Terrion Watts I Goon Fam
Was very twitchy and kept his head on a swivel. It almost looked like he was talking to himself and making mental notes throughout the game. He has some good size to him as he looks about 6’5 6’6 and he is very active defensively and doing the small stuff. If he stays in the weight room and keeps working on his game, he can make for a good project. He plays hard and has a engine in him that you can’t really teach. Maybe not one to stuff the stat sheet, but you know you will get 100% for an entire game.

With him you can see the fluidity in his game but I would just question his motor a little bit. Not his love for the game just how he gauges when to take over and when not to. He was one of the pure talents on this team and he had some good size, along with being able to score from multiple levels on the court. He really took over late in the second half against Hawks Elite but if he kept that same momentum he might have been the difference maker.
#30 Davion Sanders I Goon Fam
I caught a bit of action from Goon Elite earlier in the day and he was the one who really caught fire. He carried some of that heat into this matchup early, but his confident and skill set should take him far. He knew his game and he knew how to maximize his strength. Whenever his team was down, it was like he relied on himself to get the bucket or tie it up. He knocked down his 3s at a high clip and could attack the basket and finish inside if needed. He played good defense and also brought energy into this matchup. Matherine Agency

Yasmani Torriente | 6’3” G | Miami City Ballers 2022
This kid was one of the most athletic players present over the weekend. He used his leaping ability to corral rebounds, finish over the trees inside and to raise over defenders in the mid-range area. Must also note that he plays with an incredible motor which allows him to frustrate and wear down the common opponent. As long as his handle continues to tighten up, he’s going to be an impressive college prospect. Has all the tools you like to see at the combo guard position. Tony Bruton |

Preston Kent | 6’0” PG | Bostic Next Level 2021
Making shots is one of the most important parts of winning basketball games. Preston Kent does just that. He makes shot after shot, whether it’s contested or as a catch and shoot player. He also is a dangerous creator off of the bounce and catches defenders off guard with his quickness. Once he gets into the paint, he has a great combination of finishes and a soft touch off the glass. Tony Bruton |

Jaiun Simon | 6’7” G/F | DCA Mack 2023 | Pebblebrook High School
Jaiun Simon is a name that many will become highly familiar with soon enough. He was dominant all weekend for DCA. Standing around 6’7”, he already possesses the size and tools you love to see from a young wing prospect. He has a soft touch from the mid-range, uses his length very well on the defensive end and knows how to extend his arms to finish dunks around the rim. Also, he doesn’t force the issue. Has a solid feel for the game and should transition quite well at the high school level. Remember the name. Jaiun Simon will be a hot commodity sooner than later if he continues to develop. CJ Harper | 5’4” PG | Aim High Gold 2026
CJ Harper was a smooth operator for his Aim High Gold squad. A natural southpaw, he was able to pick his spots while exploiting defenses all weekend long. His combination of court vision and ability to change directions made him a nightmare for the competition. It was refreshing to see such a young player have the feel for the game that he possesses already. As he continues to grow physically and expand his range, he’ll be a common name in most hoop circles. Tony Bruton |

Izaiah Turman | 5’0” PG | DCA (The Show) 2025
Izaiah Turman was easily one of the more fun players to watch. He’s a southpaw with a smooth floor game. Players at his size typically don’t possess the poise and game management abilities that he has. Despite constant pressure from opposing teams, he operated at his own pace and created for himself or others whenever he felt like it. Was arguably the purest true point guard in his age bracket over the weekend. |
Jacob Kemp | 5’0” G | Aim High Gold 2026
At a young age, Jacob Kemp is already showing the ability to move well without the ball. His activity off the ball opened up many opportunities for his teammates to create for themselves and others. Once he had possession of the ball, he made quick decisions. As a catch and shoot guy, he was efficient beyond the arc and also finished well around the basket. He did a great job recognizing when and when not to cut to the basket or pop out for jumpshots. Tony Bruton |
Bilal Ahdur-Rahman | 5’6” PG | DCA Mack 2023
Bilal was steady all weekend handling the point guard duties for DCA Mack. He did a great job getting into the paint and making life easier for his teammates. One thing that stood out most was his ability to create separation without wasting motions. It allowed his team to run their sets and stay with a consistent flow. Tony Bruton |
Devin Hutcherson | 5’9” G | Aim High Gold 2026
Devin is another integral piece to the success of Aim High Gold 2026 team. He possesses really good size early on for a rising 6th grader and moves extremely well. He handles the ball good in spurts, gets to the basket and finishes everything inside. He has shown a soft touch in the painted area and a solid passing ability. He’ll be one to track. Tony Bruton |
|
Kenric Lanier | 6’1” G | Freebandz Elite 2023
Lanier may be one rising freshman that blows up later down the line. He is sneaky athletic and will be dunking on defenders sooner than later. He has a quick release on his jumpshot and good size early on for a combo. Tony Bruton |
